Gamestop: All pre-owned PS3’s $149

To this day I’ve never had any desire to own a PS3, however once I saw the Beyond Two Souls trailer on TV that changed. I felt a sudden, almost intense urge to play that game. Now I know it’s received some mixed reviews, but I still really want to play the game. It may be simply that I love Ellen Page, but it could also be that I love adventure games. Indigo Prophecy was one of my favorite games on the original Xbox and interactive story games like Telltale’s The Walking Dead continue to be some of my favorite gameplay experiences.Screen Shot 2013-10-12 at 1.57.12 PM

Therefore I was elated when I saw that Gamestop is selling all pre-owned PS3 models at $149 from now until the 24th of October (the original model 360 is selling for $99 and the slim is selling for $119 during that period as well). Unfortunately my budget won’t allow me to pick up a PS3 until the first of November pay period. Still, I may end up purchasing a PS3 to play through Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls in the near future. I’m not really interested in anything else the PS3 has to offer. I have a Blu-Ray player but almost never use it as I stream the majority of my movies in HD, or rent HD movies on demand via DISH.

Hopefully you can take advantage of this sweet deal through Gamestop. It’s really the cheapest way to get a 120gb PS3, as the lowest I’ve seen a 60gb go for on Craigslist around here has been $135.

Happy NFL Sunday

Love that commercial. The Ravens aren’t off to a strong start, but luckily neither are the Dolphins…No TD’s so far, just a pair of field goals for each. The Seahawks started strong, going up 12-0, but the Colts have caught up and it’s now 14-12.

Go Ravens! Go Seahawks!

One of my favorite ‘quick fix’ meals

I know this is random, but I just wanted to share a love for one of my favorite late night meals. It starts with a jalapeno cheddar tortilla, then a few slices of provolone cheese, a handful of pepperonis and a few slices of ham.  Toss it in the microwave for a bit and you end up with something way better tasting than a Hot Pocket. I eat them without any sauces, but I imagine it wouldn’t taste bad with some pizza sauce added to the mix.

Don Jon

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been one of my favorite actors since I first saw (500) Days of Summer in theaters, so when I heard he wrote, directed and starred in the movie Don Jon I knew I’d want to see it.

Image

This afternoon Vanessa and I saw Don Jon and we enjoyed it greatly. It tells the story of a man (Jon) who is obsessed with (and addicted to) internet porn and the “one way street” experience it offers (this becomes a theme of sorts in the movie). He’s practically able to have intercourse with any woman he wants on any given night, however nothing compares to the rush of internet porn.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the character Jon perfectly and offers plenty of laughs throughout the movie alongside the more serious struggle of Jon’s inability to understand the importance of a “two way street” relationship. Much like (500) Days of Summer Gordon Levitt’s character has grown by the close of the film, overcoming a variety of struggles and heartbreak on the way to a ‘feel good’ ending.

I definitely recommend Don Jon to anyone looking for a feel good movie.

The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Horribly boring

Tonight we watched The Haunting in Connecticut 2, and I have to say it is easily one of the most dull and ‘unscary’ (can’t really think of an actual word at the moment) horror movies I’ve seen in a long while. I should’ve known going in not to expect much as I’ve seen the first movie and can recall absolutely nothing about it. The movie seemed like it had promise at first, however it quickly began to bore me. None of the attempted scares hit their mark. Most of the movie is just cutting to scenes of spirits standing around doing very little haunting at all. What’s worse is the back story that gets filled in toward the end is a little too late (some of this being explained earlier, might have possibly made the location slightly creepy) and the ‘happily ever after’ ending to the movie was a major let down.

I can only hope we’ll find some better horror movies to watch as we go deeper into October. I’m really disappointed there’s not a Paranormal Activity movie this year.

Day two of GTA Online: Still no luck

I still have not been able to get past the tutorial in GTA V. I’m stuck on the ‘waiting for other players’ screen again. I’ve read of a few possible workarounds, one mentioned on the Rockstar website involves deleting the title update from your hard drive and downloading it again. I’m going to try that and if that doesn’t work then I’ll just give it a rest until Rockstar gets all the bugs worked out.

UPDATE:

Ok so I deleted and redownloaded the title update and tried joining GTA Online via the ‘solo session’ option which some people have said has worked, however this time I get stuck on an infinite loading screen where before it said ‘waiting for players’ so I’ve made no progress. Looks like I’ll be waiting awhile longer to check out GTA Online.

Trying to play GTA Online

GTA Online launched today (the online counterpart to GTA V), however so far it’s been facing lots of roadblocks. Rockstar warned that the launch would be rocky, so this isn’t something unexpected. I haven’t been able to get into the actual gameplay yet, but you can view my efforts below if you want.

Returning to World of Warcraft….again…

Today I played World of Warcraft for the first time in six months. I just got a random urge to play again, so I activated my account and logged in. I hit a level cap for the first time since I started playing WoW (which I believe was somewhere around 2007 or 2008). Every year around October the weather reminds me of the time I first tried WoW. One of the things that blew me away was the experience of taking down the Headless Horseman with a bunch of other players, all while inhaling the fresh autumn air through the window and munching on candy corn between classes in my sophomore year of college.

I’ve played on and off since then, but never got too into it. It’s fun to play here and there ,but I’m not one to play the game religiously or scientifically, with a bunch of add ons and crunching numbers, reading strategy guides and determining ‘proper’ class builds. I just play to play, that’s all. I’ve never done a proper raid. I did do a few of the Cataclysm raids via Raid Finder, but it was just a bunch of random people jumping into and out of the raid, many of them disinterested.

Anyway, here’s a gameplay video of my return to WoW:

Saying Goodbye to Breaking Bad

Last night was the series finale of one of my favorite shows: Breaking Bad. The finale was fitting for the series, but I have to say I had more fun watching seasons two and three than four and five. It was a fun ride and I enjoyed almost every moment (looking at you ‘fly’ episode!). Now maybe I’ll finally get around to finishing season three of Game of Thrones. Maybe that’ll end on a happier note ;).

Also last night brought the return of The Simpsons and Family Guy and both premieres were quite enjoyable. We’re also two weeks away from the return of The Walking Dead and I can’t wait!

I also DVR’ed the premiere of Showtime’s new show, Masters of Sex, but haven’t gotten around to watching it yet.
